Upright Monument Rules and Regulations

Rosedale Rosehill Cemetery has guidelines in place to help maintain a respectful and well-kept environment for all visitors. Rules vary depending on where your loved one is interred, so we encourage you to review these regulations for our Upright Monument areas.

The Cemetery reserves the right to initiate enforcement of its rules and regulations at any time and to remove any adornment that is unsafe, inappropriate or offensive.

Temporary Markers

Temporary markers used in the Upright Monument Sections shall be no larger than 6” x 12”x 3/4” with a stake no longer than 12” in length. The markers must contain the name, year of birth and death of the deceased.

All approved temporary markers are allowed for a period of 6 months from the date of interment.

We recommend that all temporary markers include the grave location for identification purposes.

Adornment Maintenance & Regulations

Approved adornments or plantings must be within one foot in front of the monument. When placing  an approved adornment or planting, the responsible party hearby agrees to maintain the area.

If the area becomes unsightly the Cemetery reserves the right to remove all plantings and adornments.

The Cemetery is not responsible for any damage done to the plantings or adornments.

Approved Adornments

To maintain safety, cleanliness and a respectful environment for all visitors, we have a list of approved adornments for our Upright Monument areas. No more than 6 adornments or objects are permitted per grave.

  • Plantings & Adornments: must not exceed 18” in height and must be placed within one foot of the base of the monument or foundation.

  • Flags: are allowed only at the head of interment spaces, and can be no higher than 2 feet. All flags placed in an Armed Forces or First Responder flag holder must comply with the maximum height of the monument.

    Permitted flags are limited to: U.S. flags, flags of the Armed Forces branches of the U.S. Military, POW/MIA flags, and flags representing the decedent’s country of origin.

  • Vigil Lights: only plastic vigil lights are permitted. The Cemetery is not responsible for damage to or removal of any vigil lights.

Not Permitted Items

To maintain safety, cleanliness and a respectful environment for all visitors, we have prohibitted certain items in the cemetery.

Prohibitted items include, but are not limited to:

  • Balloons

  • Fences

  • Enclosures

  • Banners

  • Shepherd's Hooks

  • Headstone saddle/pillow decorations

  • Windchimes

  • Pinwheels

  • Stones of any type

  • Glass Items

However, there are some specific exceptions during special times of the year:

  • Palm Sunday: Palms are allowed

  • Christmas: Christmas blankets are allowed

Funeral Service Flowers

Flowers may be placed on the interment space in conjunction with the funeral service. If not taken by the family, they will be removed the same day of the service by the cemetery team.
